For the second year in a row, students at Saint Francis University trained and conditioned dogs from the Central PA Humane Society and found them loving families and forever homes. Three different dogs, one goal This year, Saint Francis University welcomed three dogs—Neeko, Jango and Akira—to campus through the help of Central PA Humane Society member and trainer Megan Sanchez. The Environmental Engineering Department at Saint Francis University is pleased to thank Gwin Dobson & Foreman Consulting Engineers of Altoona, Pennsylvania for their generous donation of an Armfield hydraulic flume. The flume is 2.5 meters long (center) and comes with a large hydraulic workbench with pump (right). This flume will be of great teaching and research value in the department. It will provide a tool for courses such as Hydraulics & Hydrology and Fluid Mechanics in addition to student research and real class projects. Heather N. McHenry, PA-C, ’08, MPAS, ’09, has been selected as the speaker for the 2016 Graduate Commencement ceremony on May 8. About Ms. McHenry Heather McHenry says she knew immediately—on her first trip to Honduras as a Saint Francis undergraduate—that she was hooked on medical missions. “It opened my eyes,” says McHenry of the experience. Senior strategic communications major and pre-law minor Amanda Schiavo presented some of her research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) on April 7 at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Schiavo presented findings from a study she completed in her Communications Theory and Research course during the 2015 fall semester at Saint Francis. Public Health program celebrates first graduates 2016

In 2012, Saint Francis University launched a new program: Public Health . This past December, the program celebrated its first two graduates, William Myers and Austin Potts. A recent addition to the School of Health Sciences at Saint Francis University, Public Health develops professionals to promote health and the prevention of disease through research, community-based interventions and public policy. Danielle MacMurtrie, a newly minted Doctor of Physical Therapy , finished off her final years at Saint Francis University creating an anatomy painting series for the School of Health Sciences. ENACTUS Wins Regional Competition 2016

The Saint Francis University chapter of ENACTUS won the title “Regional Champions” in the ENACTUS Regional Competition held in Washington, D.C. on March 29. Competing against 50 other colleges and universities from the Northeast Region, the ENACTUS team presented the results of educational outreach projects which were completed during the academic year to a panel of 12 business professionals. The ENACTUS students impressed the judges with a dynamic, oral, multi-media presentation that demonstrated how the team was able to educate various target audiences including high school students, college
A journey from the Humane Society to Veterinary School

Graduating with the class of 2015 were two unordinary “students:” Maizie and JoJo. These “students” came to Saint Francis University from the Central PA Humane Society where they had been given up by previous owners. As part of a psychology course on animal behavior, a group of students guided by Dr. Stephen Gilmour, now professor emeritus of psychology, applied classroom theory in training these “hard-to-adopt” dogs.
