SFU Honors ROTC Scholar with Full Scholarship

Dr. Remillard | 10/10/2025

On Wednesday, October 1, Saint Francis University proudly recognized Alexis Strange, a graduate of  Central York High School in York, Pennsylvania, as the recipient of a three-year Army ROTC National Scholarship. What makes this award especially significant at SFU is the addition of the university’s room-and-board scholarship, a benefit offered by only a select few colleges nationwide.  The combined package reflects Saint Francis University’s distinctive commitment to service,  leadership, and student success.

The award was presented during a ceremony attended by Lt. Col. Erich Steffens of the ROTC  program, University President Fr. Malachi Van Tassell, T.O.R., and Dr. Arthur Remillard, Dean of the  School of STEAM. The moment also serves as the opening “bookend” of the ROTC journey at SFU,  one that will be completed at graduation when cadets are formally commissioned as Second  Lieutenants in the U.S. Army.

ROTC is a university-based program that prepares students to become Army officers while completing their degrees. Cadets engage in leadership development, military training, and physical fitness alongside their academic studies. Upon graduation, they enter the Army as commissioned officers, ready to lead.   For Cadet Strange, who is majoring in Physician Assistant studies, this path offers the opportunity to blend her academic training with future service in the Army health services.
