Saint Francis University Hosts CCAP District 2 Spring Meeting at Aviation Education Center

Regional Leaders Convene in Johnstown for Collaboration and Growth 

On April 10, 2026, Saint Francis University welcomed regional leaders and stakeholders to its Aviation Education Center at the Johnstown Airport for the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) District 2 Spring Meeting. The event was hosted at the request of  Cambria County President Commissioner Scott Hunt, who serves as the elected District 2  Representative of CCAP. 

District 2 includes Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana,  Lawrence, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland counties. The meeting brought together county officials, industry leaders, and community partners to engage in meaningful dialogue on innovation, regional growth, and workforce development across southwestern Pennsylvania. 

Insights from Regional and Industry Leaders 

The morning session took place inside Saint Francis University’s Aviation Education Center,  where attendees heard from a range of regional experts. Presentations featured insights from  Tom Davis, Director of the Cambria County Department of Emergency Services; Glenn Ponas,  Executive Director of Aerium; and John Eberhardt of Drone814, along with additional leaders contributing to the region’s economic and technological advancement. 

Each speaker emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving innovation and strengthening community outcomes, highlighting how partnerships among public, private, and educational institutions are essential to sustained regional success. 

Aviation and Emerging Technologies Driving Opportunity 

A key focus of the meeting was the growing role of aviation and emerging technologies in shaping economic opportunity. Discussions highlighted the expanding impact of unmanned aerial systems, the continued development of aviation education pathways, and the need to align workforce training with industry demands to support long-term regional growth. 

Experiential Learning on Display 

Following the presentations, attendees toured the Aviation Education Center, gaining a firsthand look at Saint Francis University’s hands-on training environment. The tour showcased the university’s commitment to preparing students for careers in aviation maintenance, flight, and emerging technologies through experiential learning opportunities.
