Saint Francis University's REAL Institute Hosts AI Forum for Members

The Rural Education Alliance for Leadership (REAL) Institute at Saint Francis University hosted an AI Forum for member districts on September 30, 2025, at the SFU Curry Innovation Center in Altoona, drawing more than 55 educational leaders from surrounding K–12 districts. The event was supported by The Milton Hershey School and is part of the REAL Institute’s 2025–2026 event forums.


Guiding the Next Generation: School Leadership in the Age of AI: Artificial Intelligence is reshaping education, and school leaders play a critical role in guiding its impact. This workshop examined opportunities and challenges of AI in classrooms, school operations, and district leadership. Topics included staff professional learning, responsible adoption strategies, and preparing students with future-ready skills. Attendees  gained practical insights, case studies, and actionable strategies to lead AI integration effectively.


The evening began with dinner and welcoming remarks from University President Fr. Malachi Van Tassell, TOR, Ph.D., and other institutional leaders  The main agenda featured expert panelists: Dr. Nicholas Caminiti, Director of Instructional Technology Altoona Area School District; Dr. John Miko, Associate Dean, Shields School of Business at Saint Francis University; Professor of MIS Joe Strittmatter, Secondary Technology Director, Central Cambria Middle School; and Principal Dr. Mike Vuckovich Superintendent, Windber Area School District.  

Dr. Nicholas Caminiti, Dr. John Miko, Joe Strittmatter, and Dr. Michael Vuckovich  led guided panel discussion and  brought diverse expertise in instructional technology, business analytics, school leadership, and educational innovation. The forum concluded with a session on the practical application of AI in school settings, providing strategies for educators and leaders to integrate AI ethically and effectively.
