Honing Engineering Skills at a Geochemistry Start-Up
Environmental Engineering at SFU | 09/29/2025
Dr. Joel Bandstra helped Sarah Hartwell, an SFU Environmental Engineering rising senior, secure an internship with an environmental geochemistry firm, Mineralogic, in Duluth, MN. Throughout the summer, Sarah built upon skills she learned at SFU, such as coding with Python, PHREEQC, and R Studio, while gaining new experiences working with software such as PowerBI and researching rules and regulations in Minnesota.
Beyond Nuts and Bolts: Preparing Problem-Solvers for the Engineering World
Br. Marius Strom, Engineering Laboratory Instructor | 08/15/2025
There is no solution manual to the world's needs, but those needs are many. As engineers, we must embrace the ambiguity in order to create new solutions for our brothers and sisters. Saint Francis University's Engineering programs are designed to build not just your technical skills but also your ability to grasp the world as it is, enabling you to meet the challenges of tomorrow head on and reveal opportunities where others see only unsolvable problems.

SFU Student wins 2020 River Symposium
01/27/2021
Congratulations to Saint Francis University sophomore, Matthew Berzonsky. The Environmental Engineering student won first place at Bucknell University's Virtual 2020 River Symposium undergraduate poster competition held last November. His authored work, entitled "Analyzing the Impact of Mine Drainage Residuals on Phosphorus Sequestration and Agricultural Production," was among dozens of presenters from regional universities. The work was co-authored by fellow Environmental Engineering student, Benjamin Dumm, and Environmental Engineering alum, Sarah White. Along with faculty members, Dr
Environmental Engineering Students Get Hands-On Experience
11/12/2018
Saint Francis University’s Environmental Engineering students get hands-on experience working on real projects from local organizations. These projects allow the students to get out into the field as an undergraduate, and perform work that makes a difference. In one such project, Environmental Engineering students, along with SFU’s Center for Watershed Research and Service (CWRS), are partnering with Altoona Water Authority and other agencies to assess the level of impurities and improve the water quality of a drainage impaired by historic coal mining near the Kittanning Run stream in Logan
