About Dr. John Miko

Education

John holds degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Business Administration and earned a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership with an IT specialization from Nova Southeastern University.

 

Biography

John Miko has taught at Saint Francis University since 2002, offering courses in Business Analytics and Management Information Systems at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. His research interests include mentorship in higher education and effective approaches to teaching analytics. He is currently authoring a Power BI technology module and a textbook on data visualization for MyEducator, a publisher of interactive digital resources. In addition, he has created a YouTube channel and a Udemy course focused on Excel and productivity skills.

 

John has been recognized multiple times for his teaching excellence. He has been a finalist for several teaching awards and received the Swatsworth Faculty Award, as voted on by his colleagues, in both 2010 and 2020. In 2012, he was honored with the SFU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Faculty Award, and in 2005 he was named a Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellow.

 

Before his academic career, John worked for 10 years in the financial technology sector, most recently serving as Vice President of Information Technology at M&T Bank. He holds several professional certifications, including the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

 

John is married with five children. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, exploring technology, and playing, coaching, and watching a wide variety of sports. He is also a devoted pickleball player, so feel free to challenge him to a match.
