Education

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Pittsburgh, where her capstone focused on reducing avoidable hospital transfers in long-term care settings. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of San Diego and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix

Biography

Dr. Bernadette Sherman is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Geriatric Specialist with over two decades of clinical and academic experience. She currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the MSN Family Nurse Practitioner Program at Saint Francis University, where she leads curriculum development, clinical site coordination, and regulatory compliance. Her teaching philosophy centers on holistic care and mentorship, preparing future nurse practitioners to meet the evolving needs of diverse patient populations.

 

Dr. Sherman’s clinical expertise includes telemedicine, long-term care, hormone replacement therapy, and hospice services. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and research focused on simulation-based education, weight management, and communication strategies in nurse practitioner training. She is a frequent presenter at national conferences, with topics ranging from geriatric care to hormone therapy and gender-affirming treatment strategies.

 

A dedicated advocate for underserved populations, Dr. Sherman actively participates in Operation Safety Net for the Homeless and serves as a faculty advisor for international service-learning programs in Jamaica. She is a longstanding member of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, where she serves as Southwest Chapter President and Co-chair of the Practice Committee.

 

Bernadette has four children and in her leisure time enjoys cooking, reading, and cycling as well as outdoor activities.
