Biography

Dr. Cassie Grassmyer has taught at Saint Francis University since January of 2018, offering courses in education and special education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Her other roles include coordinating field experience placements including student teaching placements for all undergraduate and graduate students taking education courses. Dr. Grassmyer’s research interests include educating children with severe and profound disabilities and medically complex conditions, trauma, sensory integration, and assistive technology. Dr. Grassmyer participates in the H.U.G.S Bahamas trip during spring break and advises the Education Club. 

 

Before her career in higher education, Dr. Grassmyer served as an elementary school teacher, instructional coach, learning guide and instructor for a cyber charter school, and K-12 virtual charter school principal. From 2005-2014, Dr. Grassmyer was a teacher and instructional coach at Altoona Area School District. She served as technology liaison and facilitator for after school programs and summer school programs. In 2014 she took a leave of absence from teaching to care for her medically fragile child. In 2016 she returned to education when she became a learning guide and then principal for Central PA Digital Learning Foundation, a local cyber charter school. While acting as principal, she also ran the elementary program and was the instructor for all students in the K-6 program. As an educator, instructional coach and administrator it’s always been Dr. Grassmyer’s goal to help increase student achievement through engaging curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

 

Dr. Grassmyer lives in Altoona, PA with her husband and three German Shepherds. She is a bereaved mother to her only son Jack.
