The Biology and Chemistry departments were delighted to virtually welcome back 2011 Biology/Biochemistry alumna Dr. Caitlin Brown on May 5. In a Google Hangout, Dr. Brown spoke about her career path from SFU to Thomas Jefferson University for her Pharm.D. degree, then to two different clinical residencies, and to her current role serving patients at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN during the COVID-19 pandemic. On April 24, 2020, NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope celebrated the 30th anniversary of its launch aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery with the release of a stunning new Hubble image! The Science Outreach Center at Saint Francis University is pleased to have been selected as one of a limited number of locations across the nation to unveil the anniversary photo to the public. Take a Peek into the Animal Behavior Lab

Are larger clawed crayfish more aggressive? Are crayfish territorial? Does size matter? The Animal Behavior (BIOL 208) lab exposes Biology students to the broad, interdisciplinary field of animal behavior. In Dr. Justin Merry’s lab shown in this video, students are testing hypotheses about what traits best predict the ability of the crayfish to control resources in territorial contests. Candidate traits include factors like mass or length, as well as claw size, health (as inferred by body-mass index), or even animal personality.
