Solidarity Festival

Colleen Krug

This year's Solidarity Festival will be held on Friday, April 12th, from noon to 2 p.m. in the JFK Student Lounge. The event is CES-approved and will have tables and displays from a dozen various departments, clubs, and external community organizations on the theme of poverty and food insecurity.

Everyone is invited to come and have fun with international food and snack tasting, protein sources with edible insects, learning about food waste, food resources, master gardening, and sustainable farming, playing the "Guess the Price" quiz game, making frozen treats with R.O.C.K., taking a tour of the Hoop House (next to Torvian Dining Hall), and learning about clean water from the Center for Watershed Research.

The event will also feature a food drive benefitting the Dorothy Day Community Outreach Center and two special presentations.  At 12:15 p.m., Erica Goble, a Nutritionist/CPA and Outreach Coordinator from the Community Action Partnership of Cambria County WIC (Women Infant Children) Program, will be presenting on the benefits of WIC to the community.  At 1:15 p.m., Justin Kurtz, who is the Community Connections Partnership Coordinator for Cambria and Indiana Counties, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, will be presenting on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Both of the presentations are CES-approved events. See the attached Solidarity Fest Information for more details!
