Sign up for R.E.D Day of Service - October 7th
Dear SFU Community:
It's that time of year again for you or your organization/group to give back to the local community, raise school spirit and continue a tradition at Saint Francis University! Reaching Every Door (RED) is a day of service where students go out into the Loretto, Cresson, Lilly and Ebensburg communities and do various jobs and chores to help area senior citizens, people with physical limitations, churches, communities, civic organizations, etc. Some of the projects we’ve done in the past include painting a living room for an elderly individual, cleaning out a garage, hauling recyclables to the recycling center, winterizing gardens, cleaning shelves at a local library, collecting litter at a local park, spreading mulch on trail paths, and many others. This year RED Day is Tuesday, October 7th. All sign ups must take place by Monday, September 15th.
FOR INDIVIDUALS:
You can sign up individually by completing the registration form.
NOTE: New participants should register for a shirt. If you’ve participated in RED before, please wear your shirt from previous years.
- Please check the compressed class schedule and try to be as specific as possible about your availability.
- Committee members will assign you to a group and contact you about your project assignment and transportation needs.
- ON OCTOBER 7 - You will need to stop by JFK before departing for your project and when you return to campus to “swipe in and swipe out” so we can track your hours.
- This year - there is also an option to go to Prince Gallitzin State Park and assist with projects there, please select this option if you are interested!
FOR CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS/TEAMS/CLASSES/GROUPS:
Your club/organization can participate in two ways:
- We encourage organizations to find their own project. If your organization has a project or philanthropy, please register that project; or
2.) You can adopt a project from the list the committee will be compiling from those who submit applications.
We’re asking you to do the following:
- REGISTER your organization in Engage using the registration form
- PROVIDE a list of participating members with t-shirt sizes
NOTE: New participants should register for a shirt. If you’ve participated in RED before, please wear your shirt from previous years.
- COMMIT to do the project during your specified time
- ON OCTOBER 7 - Require your members to stop by JFK before departing for your project and when you return to campus to “swipe in and swipe out” so we can track your hours.
- COORDINATE transportation to the work site and back to campus
We have a small assortment of tools, gloves, and cleaning supplies to make your job easier. We also ask our registrants to provide paint and supplies for their projects. Students are not permitted to operate power tools or climb ladders higher than a step ladder.
RED can only happen through the cooperation and dedication of SFU clubs, organizations, classes, fraternities, sororities and athletics teams. We encourage you to sign up today.
