SFU Shines in NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll
Saint Francis Student-Athletes Shine in NEC Winter Academic Honor Roll

Saint Francis University continues to uphold a proud tradition of academic excellence among its student-athletes, with 104 Red Flash athletes named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) Winter Academic Honor Roll. The announcement, made by the NEC on Monday, highlights the academic commitment of Saint Francis student-athletes across multiple winter sports.
To earn a spot on the Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must achieve a minimum 3.20 grade point average (GPA). Impressively, 46 of the 104 honorees exceeded that benchmark with GPAs of 3.75 or higher—earning them the distinction of NEC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition.
Standout Programs
Among the standout programs, women’s swimming achieved a remarkable milestone, with 89.6% of its roster named to the Academic Honor Roll and 41.3% earning Commissioner’s Honor Roll honors. Women’s indoor track and field followed closely behind, boasting 87.5% of its roster on the Academic Honor Roll and an impressive 52.5% on the Commissioner’s list.
In terms of sheer numbers, women’s indoor track and field led all winter teams with 35 student-athletes honored.
By the numbers:
- Women's indoor track and field - 35
- Women’s swimming – 26
- Men’s indoor track and field – 23
- Men’s basketball – 11
- Women’s basketball – 9
These accomplishments reflect academic data collected through the Fall 2024 semester.
Scholar-Athlete Honors and Historic Consistency
While Saint Francis did not have a winter recipient for the prestigious NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, the fall semester saw standout performances from Dolores Zavaleta (field hockey, San Juan, Argentina) and Korrin Burns (women’s volleyball, Clarion, Pa.), both of whom earned the top academic-athletic honor in their respective sports.
Since the NEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award’s inception in 2003-04, Saint Francis has been the only NEC school to receive at least one honoree every year, totaling 82 awards. The Red Flash added four Scholar-Athlete honors to that record last year alone.
Continuing Academic Momentum
Combining fall and winter seasons, Saint Francis athletes have amassed 243 Academic Honor Roll placements and 96 Commissioner’s Honor Roll honors for the academic year so far. These achievements underscore the university’s dedication to academic success alongside athletic performance.
As the Red Flash prepare for the spring season, their continued excellence in the classroom serves as a testament to the hard work and discipline of Saint Francis student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff.
