Saint Francis University to Host Suicide Prevention Walk Sept. 9

Mitchell Jubas | 09/04/2026

The community event will promote awareness, connect participants with resources, and honor lives lost to suicide.

Saint Francis University will bring together members of the campus and surrounding communities for its Suicide Prevention Walk on Wednesday, Sept. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. on the  Campus Mall.

The annual event aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention, challenge the stigma surrounding mental health, and remind those who may be struggling that they never have to walk alone.

Bringing the Community Together

First held at Saint Francis in 2017, the Suicide Prevention Walk recognizes the profound impact suicide can have on individuals, families, and communities. Moments of depression and emotional distress can often leave people feeling overwhelmed or isolated. The walk gives the community an opportunity to come together in support of those who are struggling and reinforce the message that help and hope are available.

More than 15 resource providers and organizations are expected to participate in this year's event. Representatives will include private practices, inpatient and outpatient services, advocacy groups, nonprofit organizations, and campus organizations.

Saint Francis groups participating in the event will include the Social Work Club, athletic teams, fraternities and sororities

These organizations will provide information about mental health services, suicide prevention efforts, and other resources available throughout the region. By connecting attendees with these resources, the event encourages individuals to seek support and helps foster more open and compassionate conversations about mental health and suicide prevention.

Remembering Those We Have Lost

The evening will also provide an opportunity for remembrance and reflection. Attendees may dedicate memorial bags in honor of loved ones who have died by suicide. At 7 p.m., Campus Ministry will conclude the evening with a prayer for those who have died,  those who continue to struggle, and the families and friends whose lives have been impacted by suicide.

Members of the Saint Francis and surrounding communities are encouraged to attend and wear purple in recognition of suicide prevention awareness.
