Biography

Dr. Jennifer Misiura is a clinical assistant professor of occupational therapy. She has clinical experience in several different settings, including acute care, skilled nursing, home health, and pediatric outpatient. Dr. Misiura’s previous work experience includes serving as the director of the rehabilitation department for a large continuing care retirement community, staff therapist at the UVA Health University Hospital in Charlottesville, VA, and Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Saint Francis University (SFU) Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program. She remains clinically active, still practicing occupational therapy in acute care, as well as treating pediatric clients in the outpatient setting, with a focus on pediatric feeding disorders. Currently, Dr. Misiura is responsible for the coordination and management of all Level I Fieldwork experiences for the students in the professional phase of the SFU MOT program, in addition to her teaching responsibilities. She has been an active member on different university committees and is currently serving on the Committee on Standards and Admissions. As an occupational therapist and educator in the field, Dr. Misiura has engaged in research that covers a variety of subject matters; including assessing effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions in different settings, exploring the OT role with injured collegiate athletes with a psychosocial focus, development of a community engaged experience via telehealth, assessing pain in acute care, assessment of student outcomes and perceptions following a simulated clinical experience, and program evaluation for the benefit of all stakeholders. She has a particular interest in community engaged projects, and has established a number of local, regional, and international community partners. Dr. Misiura also has an interest in complementary occupational therapy techniques, wellness, and well-being. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
