DPT Clinical Education Information for Students
Requirements for clinical education experiences may vary depending on the site; however, SFU PT requires all students to complete basic background and health requirements before participation.
All students must have:
- Health insurance throughout the DPT program. Plans are available through the University.
- American Heart Association CPR certification: Initial certification and re-certification are available at the university during the fall of DPT 1 year and summer of DPT 3 year. The current cost is $45 (subject to change without notice) per training.
- Professional liability insurance before going on first clinical education experience and maintained through the end of final clinical education experience. Cost is approximately $40/year.
- American Physical Therapy Association membership upon entering the fall of DPT 1 year. Cost is approximately $80/year.
Students must provide proof of immunization or have approved medical/religious exemption for the following immunizations:
- Current TDap
- MMR – 2 series
- Varicella – 2 series
- Polio
- Hepatitis B series of vaccines
The following requirements are completed in the spring of the DPT 1 year:

| 10-panel Urinary Drug Screen | $45 – unannounced and completed through Student Health Center |
Influenza and COVID Vaccinations While not required by the University, some clinical sites may require current Influenza and/or COVID vaccinations. Information will be communicated to students prior to placement | Per personal health insurance plan |
