Dr. Theresa M. Horner is a proud Saint Francis University
alumna and newly appointed Director of the Public Health Program, School of
Health Sciences. She returned to Saint
Francis University in January 2017 as a Visiting Assistant Professor and
assumed the directorship in May 2017.
Dr. Horner’s most recent appointment was with the University of
Pittsburgh at Johnstown as Executive Director, Office of Health &
Counseling Services. During her 15 year
tenure she garnered a depth of experience across the field of Public Health
ranging from prevention to pandemic preparedness and has presented at the
international level on the topic of Campus Safety & Crisis Prevention. She authored and implemented the Healthy Campus Initiative (2009), and
served the University as an active member of many committees, most especially the
Critical Incident Response Team. She was
the recipient of the Chancellor’s
Affirmative Action Award (2008) for her work in the area of Disability
Services and was recognized by the Office of the Governor, Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania, for Campus Alcohol &
Drug Prevention Efforts (2012).
Dr. Horner’s research interests include emergency
preparedness, environmental aspects of public health, and eradication of the
Dr. Horner is passionate about the value of University –
Community Partnerships and serves the Saint Francis University community as an
Advisory Board Member, Dorothy Day Outreach Center; Faculty Advisory Board
Member, Office of Service and Learning; and the Alumni Board Member, Office of
