  • Music at Saint Francis University

Our music program gives students a chance to develop their talents in many ways. Individual lessons are available in guitar, piano, voice, and hand drumming. Students also have the option to join various musical groups on campus such as the World Drumming Ensemble, SFU Singers, or the Band.

The World Drumming Ensemble is a performance group made up of students, faculty, staff and members of the local community. Our repertory includes traditional drumming music from all over the globe. The ensemble was designed to create opportunities for each member to learn, express, perform and, most of all, enjoy playing music. Unlike most university performing groups, we have no prerequisites or auditions — all you need is a willingness to learn. The World Drumming Ensemble prides itself on providing interactive, multi-cultural benefit concerts that support music programming in schools K through 12 throughout the region.

New, amateur and professional singers are all welcome to sing with the Saint Francis University Chorus! We sing one concert per semester and are also regularly invited to perform for various special ceremonies on campus. The Saint Francis University Chorus performs music that includes many time periods and genres from Bach to Billy Joel. Our group is not auditioned however, more advanced vocalists have opportunities to perform solos or small-ensemble numbers from time to time. Chorus counts as 1-credit toward the 3-credits needed for your general education fine arts requirement. You are also able to sign up to take it for zero credit if you have a full class load.

    The Spirit of Saint Francis

Our University Bands give student musicians a chance to showcase their skills and provide an excitement to fans of our sporting events!

The Saint Francis University Pep Band is another of the long-standing traditions of Red Flash athletics, and has become an essential part of the athletics experience here at Saint Francis. From kickoff to tip-off, the "Spirit of Saint Francis" is always there to rally the fans and players alike to victory! The Pep Band offers students the excitement of participating in athletic events during all seasons of competition, including the Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, and Men's and Women's Volleyball seasons. As one of the few Universities in Pennsylvania to offer scholarships for Pep Band, you can be a part of the group that "brings the noise" to Red Flash sports!

    Marching Band

Taking the field for the first time in the 2012 Football season, the Marching Band is a “Flash of Pride” that captures the hearts of the Red Flash faithful assembled at DeGol Field. This is YOUR chance to be part of the loudest, proudest spirit group at Saint Francis.

The guard program consists of two squads: a flag line, and a majorette line. We performing as separate squads, but at the same time we will function as one cohesive section. The uniforms are similar, and the routines will coordinate. We also combine the two squads into one larger squad for one of the halftime numbers. This symbolizes the theme of “coming together,” which is a key part of the premise of our show. Our style is very unique because it will draw from the influences of corps style, military style, and traditional college style marching bands. We create our own “hybrid” of different styles, which sets the SFU Guard apart and give us our own identity. We continually strive for excellence, precision, discipline, and pride.
