Spelling Bee winners announced

Gupta bee winner  Rose spelling bee  Pisano spelling bee

30 students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades from 15 local schools competed in the Saint Francis Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 2. The spellers competed for three spots in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Spelling Bee to be held in March.

Rohan Gupta (left) from Hollidaysburg Area Junior High won this year's Bee. First runner up was John Rose (center) from Frankstown Elementary and second runner up was Ben Pisano (right) from Holy Trinity School. All three are eligible for the Pittsburgh Bee. The winner of that contest will advance to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The event was directed by Dr. Lauri Chose and sponsored by the School of Arts & Letters.
