Simple Gifts 13

Two women playing twelve instruments! The award-winning, musical duo Simple Gifts is back as Saint Francis University’s Artists-in-Residence for the fall 2013 semester. The fun, energetic duo performed on campus in November 2012, and returned by popular demand.

Simple Gifts plays a variety of ethnic-folk styles, from lively Irish jigs, to down-home American reels, to everything in between. Based in the hills of central Pennsylvania, these women play an amazing array of instruments. They combine tradition and innovation, creating some of the finest arrangements in folk music today. Simple Gifts delivers their music with intensity and enthusiasm, making this a show that is not to be missed!

As part of their Artist-in-Residence duties, Simple Gifts will perform concerts and host workshops for the local and Saint Francis communities during the fall semester. On October 31, at 11 am, the duo will run a workshop for the university’s fine arts class in the campus’ Boiler House Fine Arts Center. That same evening at 7 pm they will perform a free concert that is open to the public at Café Voltaire in the Boiler House.

This project is partially supported by a grant from Pennsylvania Performing Arts on Tour, a program developed and funded by the Heinz Endowments; the William Penn Foundation; the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency; and The Pew Charitable Trusts; and administered by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.

Simple Gifts is also visiting Saint Francis as part of a gift from the university’s School of Arts & Letters. For more information contact 814-472-3050.
