    About John Miko

    Education

    John holds degrees in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Business Administration and earned a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership with an IT specialization from Nova Southeastern University.

    Biography

    John has taught at Saint Francis University since 2002 where he has offered courses in Quantitative Business Analysis at both the graduate and undergraduate level and numerous courses in Management Information Systems.  He has been a finalist for several teaching awards and in 2010 was awarded the Swatsworth Faculty Award and in 2012 received the SFU Alumni Association’s Distinguished Faculty Award. John was also named a Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in 2005.  Prior to his teaching career, John was employed for 10 years in the field of Information Technology primarily in the arena of Financial Services.  His previous position prior to his appointment at SFU was Vice-President, Information Technology at M&T Bank. He is a member of the Association of Information Technology Professionals and the Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of Mathematics. He is married with five children and in his leisure time enjoys reading, surfing the Internet, and playing, coaching, and watching sports of almost any kind.

    Research & Consulting

    John has consulted with several small business on the development of their web presence, served as an IT consultant for several banks, and has done several corporate project management training sessions through the training firm he owns, The Project Management Training Group. John’s research is centered around improving teaching pedagogy. His articles on using an SEO contest to teach search engine optimization were very well received throughout the MIS educator community.

      Hobbies

      He is married with five children and in his leisure time enjoys reading, surfing the Internet, and playing, coaching, and watching sports of any kind. He frequently challenges students to racquetball matches and races on the stationary bikes in Disepio Fitness Center.
