    • Research interests include: organizational use of electronic communication media, open-source software use in higher education, and instructional technology.

    He has been a finalist for several teaching awards, in 2010 was awarded the Swatsworth Faculty Award, and in 2012 was presented the SFU Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty Award. John was also named a Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in 2005.
