Her education consists of
Mrs. Vitko’s nursing foundation is rooted at Saint Francis University, and her work is a testament for the love she has for the university. Her nearly 20 years of nursing experience include Hospice/Palliative Care Nursing, Home Health Nursing, Rehabilitation Nursing, Telemetry, Case
Management, and Critical Care Nursing. In addition to teaching Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Critical Care Nursing at SFU, she continues to maintain bedside practice in the Intensive Care Unit at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center; a position that she has held since
1999. Additionally, she is experienced with utilizing simulation for nursing education; having done so in both the hospital and academic settings.
Mrs. Vitko utilizes her clinical and educative experience for the good of the community; she has developed and implemented injury prevention programs for a local elementary school and continues to actively lecture at education seminars in local hospitals. She is a
founding member of the Health Fair at SFU; a free medical screening/health promotion event offered annually on the SFU campus to community members that are uninsured or underinsured. During these events, she guides and supports students in taking part in these
endeavors which further exemplifies service-learning in the Franciscan tradition. Her love for her profession is exemplified to her students.
Personally, Mrs. Vitko enjoys spending time with her husband and three young children, and has a passion for sports and travelling.
