The Very Rev. Richard Davis, TOR, has assumed the role of chairman of the Saint Francis University Board of Trustees as part of his new role as Minister Provincial for the Third Order Regular Franciscans, Province of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Fr. Davis, in the Franciscan tradition, has moved from his role as Vicar Provincial to fill the vacancy resulting from election of the Most Rev. Nicholas E. Polichnowski, TOR to Minister General of the Order. The election took place on May 23, 2013 at the 111th General Chapter of the Third Order Regular of Saint Francis in Rome.
Fr. Davis has served on the Board of Trustees for both Saint Francis University and Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio and as Vicar Provincial for the Province since 2000. Currently Fr. Davis serves as Vice President for Community Relations at Franciscan University. He returned to Franciscan University in June 2004, after an assignment in Formation for the Province. Prior to his reassignment, he served Franciscan University from 1992-2000 as Executive Director for Community Relations. In August 2006, he was appointed Local Minister of Holy Spirit Friary located at Franciscan University.
Previous to his assignment at Franciscan University, he served in Secondary Education for 21 years, as teacher, Department Chair in Theology, and administrator in two high schools staffed by the Franciscans, TOR. Fr. Davis has been a popular preacher of Parish Renewals/Missions, as well as Retreat Director for many Religious Communities throughout the United States. Additionally he has been a member of the Steubenville Rotary Club since 1992, and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Fr. Davis was also a lecturer in religious studies at Saint Francis University from 1978-79.
Fr. Davis received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Saint Francis University, a Master of Arts in Religious Education from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, and a Master of Divinity from Saint Francis Seminary.
Fr. Polichnowski, a Pittsburgh native, had served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Saint Francis University since he was named Minister Provincial in December 2011. Before that he served as Provincial Councilor and Vicar Provincial.
Fr. Polichnowski entered the Province in Loretto on January 5, 1973 and made his solemn profession of Vows on June 1, 1977. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Third Order Regular on October 15, 1977. Fr. Polichnowski holds a Master in Divinity from Saint Francis Seminary, Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Chemistry from Saint Joseph University, Pennsylvania and a PhD. in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University, Maryland.
