    Explore the Possibilities

As a student in the Communications program at Saint Francis University you will have plenty of opportunities in the classroom and beyond. Below are just a few of the opportunities waiting for you.

  • Real-World Experience

    Print Brown Radio

Our internship program provides Communications students with learning opportunities in professional settings. All of our majors select an experiential learning opportunity, such as an internship or independent study project, as part of their undergraduate studies. These opportunities allow our students to apply what they have learned while also acquiring “real-world” experiences that will make them marketable in the communications industry.

    Student Clubs

    Red Radio

We believe that learning experiences inside and outside the classroom are essential. Communications students are encouraged to become involved with a variety of campus organizations, including the Troubadour student newspaper, the Red Radio campus radio station. Students are also encouraged to submit their work to local, regional and national media outlets for publication consideration. We regularly invite communications industry professionals to our classrooms so that they can share their insights and advice with our students.

    Study Abroad

    Study Abroad in Ireland

Students can choose to study abroad through our new Communications/Journalism International News Writing & Reporting in Ireland

What does it take to be an international news journalist, responsible for covering anything from political revolution to economic upheaval to climate change to war? This course provides students with the opportunity to put themselves “in the shoes” of a contemporary foreign news correspondent. The course is interactive, and students will have the opportunity to explore a range of different topics in Northern Ireland, while developing the skills they need to take a story from conception to publication. Close attention will be paid to writing and critical thinking, essential qualities of international news coverage.

  • Facilities

    Troubadour

Available for use by our Communications students is the Scotus Media Lab, which includes iMac computers with Apple iLife and iWorks software, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut video-editing software and Soundslides Plus, a production tool for developing image and audio web presentations. Renovations are currently underway for the development of a new on-campus television studio.  This studio will allow our students to gain the kinds of hands-on experience they need for success in today’s communications industry.
