Quantum Quest Fest 2017 set for this week

The SFU Science Outreach Center Presents: Quantum Quest Fest 2017 with Dr. Harry Kloor

Quantum Quest Fest 2017 will take place May 10-12 in Central Pennsylvania. The three-day program is dedicated to increasing science awareness and inspiring a life-long love of science in the younger generation.

The program is centered on the Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey movie which will open the festival on May 10 in Richland Cinemas, Johnstown, PA. The movie is an educational, animated action film that features voice actors from such notable franchises as Star Wars and Star Trek.

Dr. Harry Kloor, the producer and co-director of the movie will introduce Quantum Quest to three hundred 4th, 5th and 6th graders from Conemaugh Valley, Hollidaysburg Area, Shade Central-City, and Windber School Districts.

Following the movie, the children will participate in the Quantum Game hands-on activities prepared for them by high school students from Hollidaysburg Area School District and by the R-SPACE program from Saint Francis University. This activity will take place in Greater Johnstown Career & Technology Center, Johnstown, PA. 

During the second and the third day of the program, Dr. Harry Kloor, a nationally-known science writer, director, and producer, will give a series of talks at local schools. Dr. Kloor is the first American man in history to simultaneously earn a doctorate in Physics and Chemistry. Additionally, he authored six episodes of Star Trek: Voyager and served as story editor for Gene Roddenberry’s series Earth: Final Conflict.

On Thursday, May 11 at 7 pm Dr. Kloor will present and facilitate a discussion about the role of technology in sciences in the Allegheny Creamery and Crepes restaurant at Hollidaysburg, PA. This talk is open to the public.

7:00 pm – Public talk by Dr. Harry Kloor in the Allegheny Creamery and Crepes restaurant at Hollidaysburg, PA. Science café: Cosmic Cocktails special event.

Series of talks in schools:

10:00 am – Talk to Central High School 10th – 12th graders

 

1 pm – Talk to Spring Cove 5th and 6th graders
