2019 SFU Enactus Award

The Shields School of Business is proud to announce that our Saint Francis University Enactus Team has won a 2019 Enactus USA Excellence Award for our Uwork - Workforce Opportunities through Resource & Knowledge Project! The award was accepted on behalf of the team by SFU Enactus President Greg Heider, Uwork Project Co-Lead Morgan Flack, and Team Co-Advisor Kent Tonkin at Enactus National Competition in Kansas City, MO on 5/08/2019.

Enactus is an international small business club whose name stands for “Entrepreneurs taking Action for all of Us.”  Saint Francis has been a member of this organization, formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), for nearly 20 years and has frequent wins at regional and national competitions.

UWork is an acronym for Workforce Opportunities through Resources and Knowledge.  This student-led project is funded through a grant from BNY Mellon.  Along with administrative and faculty mentors, members of the Saint Francis Enactus team provided a series of hands-on professional development workshops to job-seekers through community partners including the Center for Community Action and the Altoona Area School District.  Sessions included resume/cover letter development, interview skills, motivation/self-esteem, non-verbal communications and more.

Lessons learned from this pilot project will enable the Saint Francis Enactus team to further refine this project and to offer workforce education to a wider range of job seekers beginning in fall 2019.  The team is grateful for all of the support of team members, community partners, and all of the faculty and staff of the Shields School of Business.
