Shields Hosts FBLA Competition and 200 High School Students

Future Business Leaders of AmericaThe Shields School of Business hosted the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Regional Leadership Conference on November 30th. 300 students from the following area high schools attended: Altoona Area JH, Altoona Area HS, Bishop Guilfoyle, Claysburg-Kimmel, Forest Hills, Hollidaysburg, and Northern Bedford. This is the fourth year SFU has hosted the event. 

Student teams competed in events that tested their business knowledge and skills, such as Digital Video Production, Banking and Financial Systems, Advertising, Broadcast Journalism, Computer Problem Solving, Cyber Security, Health Care Administration, Marketing, Sports & Entertainment, and more.

FBLA is a national career business organization for high school students, with over 196,950 members and more than 5,200 chapters. According to fbla-pbl.org, the FBLA National Awards Program recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. FBLA competitive events also prepare students for successful careers in business by providing opportunities to apply classroom concepts in a workforce-simulated competitive environment. 

Students who won their events will move onto the State Leadership Conference in Hershey on April 8-10, 2019. Top winners in each state are eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas on June 27-July 3, 2019.
