Every semester during finals week, the Saint Francis University
Student Government Association (SGA) sponsors their signature event, Donut Heaven. This long-standing tradition has been in place for over 30 years.
For the first three days of finals, in a show of solidarity and appreciation for their hard work, faculty and staff serve the student body snacks including donuts, hot dogs, ice cream, nachos, coffee, and hot chocolate from 10pm to 11:30pm in
Torvian Dining hall. Members of the SGA greet the students as they come in as well as manage the clean-up process.
Students line up outside of Torvian before the doors open in anticipation of the free tasty treats and the opportunity to take a break as they put in late-night cramming sessions for finals. Roughly 1,000 donuts are served nightly.
This semester’s Donut Heaven marked a milestone for Chemistry professor
Dr. Pedro Muíño. This was his 100th Donut Heaven event where he has volunteered and passed out donuts. Dr. Muíño coined the phrase “Triple Play” when a student orders one of each of the 3 donut varieties. To celebrate this milestone, the students sang “Happy Triple Play” to Dr. Muíño, and enjoyed cake in addition to their sundaes and donuts on Wednesday evening.
This semester's events were as follows:
Wednesday, May 2nd -- ice cream sundae night + donuts
Thursday, May 3rd -- hot dog night +donuts
Friday, May 4th -- nachos night + donuts
