An impressive 735 Saint Francis students turned their tassels this year at the Stokes Athletic Center. The 2018 Commencement ceremonies were held on Sunday, May 13th., with 404 undergraduates and 331 graduate students receiving diplomas.
Renowned professionals, SFU alumnus Andrew Rush and Dr. Carolyn Woo, sent off the soon-to-be graduates with keynote speeches centered on the commencement theme of “Reverence for All Life and for the Goodness of All Humanity”, one of the university's Goals of Franciscan Education.
Graduate speaker Mr. Rush, Masters of Physical Therapy ‘00, M.B.A. ’11, serves as the Chief Executive Officer for Somerset Health Services Inc. In addition, he serves Somerset Hospital as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. He also played professional baseball for six years with the Boston Red Sox and San Diego Padres.
Dr. Carolyn Yauyan Woo, Distinguished President’s Fellow for Global Development at Purdue University, was formerly President and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States.
Dr. Woo spoke at the undergraduate ceremony, encouraging the young men and women to continue the service they started during their time at SFU. “God enables us to serve one another,” she said. “Remember...you are the answer to someone else’s prayer.”
