More than 30 Shields School of Business students traveled to New York City to visit with successful alumni working on Wall Street. The students included members of SFU Enactus, the Society of Economic Analysis, and the Investment Club. Several business students participating in the exchange program with the University of Parma also attended.
During the trip, the students had the opportunity to meet with a number of SFU alumni living and working in the NYC area including Calley Bridges, Kyle Driscoll, Erin Maher, and Terri Rockovich. SFU alumnus Mike Liotti arranged for the students to take a tour of the New York Stock Exchange lead by Paul Slinkowski of Meridian Equity Partners. Nicole Bauman, associate director of the Graduate School of Business and Human Resource Management, and Kent Tonkin, instructor of Human Resource Management and Management Information Systems, co-advise the SFU Enactus club and accompanied the students on the trip.
Dr. John Miko, Professor of Management and Associate Dean and Chair of the Shields School of Business, arranged and coordinated all meetings with SFU alumni and served as an additional student chaperone. Dr. Edward Timmons, associate professor of Economics and Director of the Knee Center for the Study of Occupational Regulation, advises the Society of Economics Analysis and coordinated travel and trip logistics as an additional trip chaperone.
The trip is one of many student opportunities available at the Shields School of Business. Every March, students attend Spring Break in London, an international business-specific study abroad trip that offers economic lectures and insider tours of London's financial district, including the Bank of England, Anglo-American Center and the Lloyd's of London Insurance Exchange.
