Saint Francis University will host the English Speaking Union Central PA Regional Shakespeare Competition on Saturday, February 17 at JFK Auditorium from 10 am to 12 pm. High school students from eight schools will present a 20-line monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and their choice of one of his 154 sonnets.
“This free event is a great opportunity for the public to come out and see talented students perform some surprising selections from Shakespeare’s greatest works,” says Competition Coordinator Bonnie M. Resinski.
Prizes will be given out to the top three winners with the first prize student getting their entrance participation fee paid for by Saint Francis Departments of Literature, Language and Fine Arts to compete in the English Speaking Union’s National Shakespeare Competition in New York City.
On the weekend closest to Shakespeare’s birthday, the winner will travel to New York City to compete on the stage of The Lincoln Center against National Shakespeare Competition winners from our other 49 states. They will also enjoy a weekend of Shakespeare workshops, sight- seeing, and merriment with like-minded students in New York City.
High schools slated to participate are Carlisle, Delta, Harrisburg Academy, Hershey, Juniata Mennonite, Phillipsburg-Osceola, State College, and Susquehanna.
Don’t miss this free event and opportunity to see new talent perform classic Shakespeare.
