Services for Faculty

INSTRUCTION AND INFORMATION SERVICES

The Pasquerilla Library Instruction and Information Services Administrative Staff work directly with teaching faculty to develop information literacy skills in all segments of the student population.  Students in the freshman year receive research skills instruction as part of the University's general education program in CORE 101.  Beyond the freshman year, librarians continue instructional support by offering advanced sessions tailored to individual class needs.  To schedule a class session with a librarian, simply complete the Library Instruction Request and a librarian will contact you.

Having trouble locating materials to answer research questions?  Use the Reference Request form or contact the reference desk at 814-472-3161, email refli1@francis.edu or IM a librarian, screen name SFULibrarian.

For further information concerning Instruction and Information Services, contact Janie Rager, Librarian for Instruction and Information Services, at 814-472-3162, or email jrager@francis.edu

COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT

It is the right and the responsibility of every faculty member to assist in the development of library collections which directly support the curriculum of courses taught in every academic discipline.  Library liaisons work with the teaching faculty to insure that appropriate material is purchased and added to the collection.  Faculty may access the Library Materials Order Form on the Saint Francis University intranet.

The responsibiltiy of  the faculty, however, does not end with the purchase of material.  The collections must also be maintained.  This involves periodic review of the collections by individual academic departments.  Weeding, repairing and updating materials must be done on a regularly scheduled basis in order to guarantee the integrity of the collections.  Intensive review of the library collections is particularly recommended for departments which are preparing for program review.  Faculty members must also evaluate the periodical subscriptions and standing orders purchased by their individual academic departments.  Statistics are maintained to determine the usage of each title held by the library.  This information helps academic departments to maintain the integrity of the periodical collections.

The ultimate goal of collection development is to provide access to information resources which support the academic mission of the University.  We invite you, as a member of the faculty of the University, to exercise your collection development rights and responsibilities and to participate fully in the process of linking the library with the classroom in a partnershp which will ultimately facilitate teaching and learning at Saint Francis University.

For more information about collection development, contact Janie Rager, Assistant Librarian for Instruction and Information Services, at 814-472-3162 or e-mail jrager@francis.edu
