Adopt-A-Grandparent: Students visits John Paul II manor In Cresson on a bimonthly basis. Each student is assigned a resident or couple and spends one hour talking with that particular person. Group events may be scheduled as time permits.
American Red Cross Blood Drive: In conjunction with the Gamma-Sigma-Sigma sorority, the D.D.C. helps to arrange and prepare food and other supplies to be delivered and used during the event.
Angel Christmas Tree and Operation Secret Santa: During the Christmas season Angels bearing the name of a needy child in the community are placed on a tree in Scouts Hall which SFU community members, faculty, staff, and students take and purchase toys, clothes, and other items. These items are the compiled and distributed to their families out of the Dorothy Day Center in time for the holiday season.
Annual Tag Sale: The Dorothy Day Center holds an annual tag sale to benefit the Center's Emergency Financial Assistance program.
Bi-Annual Funfest: A fun filled day of carnival rides, game booths, food and activities. Proceeds Benefit the Emergency Financial Assistance program.
Blood Mobile: The Red Cross Blood Mobile needs volunteers three times through the academic year.
D.D.C. Newsletter: A newsletter, published twice a semester, bring awarness of our activites to the community. Advertising spots are available the funds of which are used to support the D.D.C.'s Emergency Financial Assistance program.
Food Baskets for Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas: Each year through the generosity of the Saint Francis University community and various Churched and organizations, the D.D.C. is able to make and distributed food baskets for a number of needy families in the area.
Food and Clothing Distribution: Volunteers cort food, hygiene, and various clothing donations in the D.D.C.'s St. Anthony's Cupboard and clothing center, which are then made available to the needy in the community
The Good Shepard Garden Project: An organic garden project growing produce to distribute to local needy families.
Knitting for Linus (Dorcas Needle Work Guild): Open to anyone, learn to knit, crochet, or sew baby blankets to give to terminally ill or troubled youth in the area through the Linus Project.
PLUS-1: A peer mentoring group activity where St. Francis University students are paired up with local children and participate in various scheduled activties throughout the year. The college students serve as positive role models to the young children and form very good friendships.
St. Anthony's Cupboard and Clothing Assistance: Volunteers help sort, organize, stock, and distributed food panty and donated clothing items that are available at the D.D.C.
S.M.A.R.T. (St. Michael's Arithmetic Arithmetic Reading Tutoring program): Volunteers meet twice a week at St. Micheals School to provide after school homework help, tutoring, and assistance with acquiring and improving reading and math skills.
Senior Thanksgiving Dinner: Each year various memebers of Saint Francis University community prepare and serve a free Thanksgiving dinner for residents of the local nursing homes, senior centers and senior community members. All donations for the dinner are collected for faculty, staff, and students at the University.
S.M.I.L.E. (Saturday Morning Is Laughing & Exercise): Students from Saint Francis University organize physical activities for local children to participate in on Saturday mornings. It is a time of relaxation and fun for all involved.
