BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 8, 2006) – The Saint Francis women’s volleyball team got off to a great start on Day 1 of the Chesapeake Challenge by defeating North Carolina A&T 3-1 and then tournament-host Loyola-Md. 3-0, on Friday in Baltimore.
The Red Flash improved to 4-4 on the young season, and will close out play at the tournament with an 11 a.m. contest against Kennesaw State on Saturday morning.
Saint Francis defeated North Carolina A&T in the first match by scores of 30-22, 30-24, 26-30, 30-20 behind the balance of four players in double figures.
Senior Anne Roosevelt (Plymouth, Mich. / Mercy) had 13.5 points on 9 kills and 4 services, to go along with 8 digs and 1 block. She hit .320 in the match. Sophomore Kayla Greenwalt (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Widefield) pitched in with 12.5 points with 9 kills and 6 blocks, sophomore Kristin Buter (Bowie, Md. / Bowie) had 12.0 points with 9 kills, 2 aces and 2 blocks, and senior Linda Dolansky (Rahway, N.J. / Union Catholic Regional) added 10.0 points on 10 kills, while pitching in with a team-high 10 digs.
The Red Flash defeated Loyola-Md. 32-30, 30-21, 30-24 behind 15.5 points from Roosevelt, who had 14 kills, 1 ace, 16 digs and 1 block. Senior Angela Shotter (Uniontown, Pa. / Laurel Highlands) had 3 kills, 4 aces and 7 digs, sophomore Lauren Parisi (East Amherst, N.Y. / Williamsville North) 2 aces and 14 digs, and sophomore Keshia Gibbs (Dumfries, Va. / Forest Park) added 6 kills, 1 dig and 2 blocks.
