LORETTO, Pa. – Three high school seniors and one transfer will join the Saint Francis women’s volleyball program during the 2006-07 season, head coach Scott Gleason announced on Friday.
Lindsey Fox (Meadville, Pa./Cochranton), Stephanie Leney (Clifton, Va./Centreville), Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury), and Rikki Myers (Noblesville, Ind./Westfield) will all continue their volleyball careers with the Red Flash.
“We are very excited about this year’s recruiting class,” said Gleason. “We didn’t lose any letterwinners from last season, and the addition of this class puts us in good position to make a move up in the conference.”
Fox, a middle blocker, is the sister of current Saint Francis men’s volleyball player Travis Fox, who will be a senior next season. Lindsey Fox played her freshman season at Juniata College, but will join Gleason’s squad during her sophomore campaign. She helped lead head coach Marci Maillard and the Cochranton High School girls volleyball team to a 25-1 record, a District 10 championship, and a PIAA Class A state championship during her senior season in 2004. She earned three varsity letters in volleyball, and two letters in varsity basketball, in high school. She was a team captain, a first team all-district and a first-team all state selection. She was also a member of the National Honors Society and Who’s Who Among American High School students.
Leney comes to Saint Francis out of Centreville High School, where she helped head coach Ken Moser win a district championship, and a regional runner-up. She lettered three years in volleyball, and 2 years in track while competing for the Wildcats. She was named the Most Improved Player at the World Volleyball Training Center. Leney plans to pursue a degree in Business/Marketing at Saint Francis University.
Miller helped lead head coach George Eastburn’s Pennsbury High School team to a 20-2 record, a Suburban One League title, a District I championship, and a fifth-place finish at the PIAA Class AAA championships during her senior campaign. She received two varsity letters in volleyball while playing for the Falcons. Miller was an outside hitter and middle blocker at Pennsbury, where she was a Suburban One League and District I First Team selection, as well as an all-state selection. She received the Best Hitter and Best Server awards on her team. During her senior season, she posted 343 kills, 65 blocks, 95 digs and 83 aces. She will major in Accounting at Saint Francis University.
Myers, who is projected as a collegiate setter, lettered four times in volleyball while playing at Westfield High School in Indiana. She was a middle blocker for the Shamrocks, and garnered Noblesville Daily Times Honorable mention accolades, as well as a spot on the Noblesville Ledger County Team. Myers holds the single-season school record with 50 aces and a 93.6 serving percentage. She also set single-season school marks with 301 blocks in 2004, and 305 digs in 2005. Myers excels in the classroom as well, where she is a member of the National Honor Society, and the National Society of High School Scholars. She plans to major in Chemistry/Pre-Med at Saint Francis University.
The Red Flash return all six starters plus the libero from a team that finished 10-21 overall, and 5-3 in the Northeast Conference. Saint Francis won six of eight matches to close the regular season before advancing into the NEC playoffs and winning one match. The Red Flash are scheduled to begin their 2006 season with a 6 p.m. tilt at the Naval Academy on Aug. 30.
