LORETTO, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2006) – Saint Francis senior outside hitter Anne Roosevelt (Plymouth, Mich. / Mercy) earned her first career Northeast Conference Women’s Volleyball Player-of-the-Week on Monday, three days after leading the Red Flash to their first-ever win over in-state rival Duquesne.
Roosevelt, who is a two-time All-Northeast Conference Second Team selection, became Saint Francis’ first NEC Women’s Volleyball Player-of-the Week since Nichole Hyer, on Oct. 13, 2003.
Roosevelt posted career-highs in kills (26) and digs (29) in leading the Red Flash to their first-ever win over Duquesne, 3-2, in 26 meetings. She also added two service aces, two blocks and two assists in the win, and her 26 kills marks an NEC single-match high for kills in a contest this season and was just one shy of setting the Saint Francis single-match record.
The Red Flash closed out the Youngstown Invitational with a 1-3 mark, while Roosevelt averaged 4.07 kills, 4.67 digs and 0.33 service aces during the weekend tournament. In a 3-1 setback to Youngstown State, she hit .302 with 19 kills, 22 digs, three aces, one block and one assist.
For the week, Roosevelt tallied 61 kills, five aces, four blocks and 70 digs. She improved her school records in all-time aces to 179 and all-time digs to 1,214 and with 1,107 kills, needs just 233 more kills to break another Red Flash record. On the year, the senior outside hitter ranks third in the league in digs (3.90 dpg), fourth in kills (3.81 kpg) and points (4.43 ppg) and seventh in service aces (0.48 sapg).
