STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (Nov. 12, 2006) – Sophomore middle hitter Kayla Greenwalt (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Widefield) hit .562 with 10 kills on 16 attacks, and added 6 blocks, to help the Saint Francis women’s volleyball team rebound from its first conference loss to defeat Wagner 3-0 on Sunday in both teams’ regular season finales.
The Red Flash broke the school’s single-season wins mark by defeating the Seahawks 30-25, 30-27, 30-23 to improve to 19-13 overall, and 7-1 in the Northeast Conference. Saint Francis clinched the second seed in next weekend’s Northeast Conference Tournament, which will be held at Long Island, which won the league regular season title with an 8-0 record. The Red Flash will receive a first round bye, and will play either No. 3 Robert Morris or No. 6 Wagner, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. A win in that match would put them in the championship match at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Greenwalt led all SFU players with 13.5 points in the match. Senior Anne Roosevelt (Plymouth, Mich. / Mercy) had 10 kills, 10 digs, a block and an ace, and junior Jamie Papini (Somerset, Pa. / Somerset) had 7 kills, 2 aces, 12 digs and a block.
