Greenwalt Claims Blocks Record as Women’s Volleyball Rolls to 4-0 Start in NEC

LORETTO, Pa. (Oct. 28, 2006) – One hour and three minutes was all it took for the Saint Francis University women’s volleyball team to sweep Saint Francis College 3-0 in a Northeast Conference match at DeGol Arena on Saturday afternoon.  The Flash downed the Terriers by scores of 30-8, 30-14, and 30-10 to improve to 16-12 (4-0 NEC) on the season.  SFU’s 16 victories are the most for the team since a 16-19 campaign in 2002.

The program’s all-time record for wins in a season was set at 18 in 1999.

Despite the uneven match-up, the afternoon wasn’t without its memorable moments.  Midway through the second game, Red Flash sophomore Kayla Greenwalt (Colorado Springs, CO / Widefield) became the school’s all-time blocks leader.  Greenwalt entered the match tied with Kim Duke at 185.  Duke played for the Flash between 2002 and 2004.

All three Red Flash freshmen saw significant time over the course of the game with Shirley Miller (Fairless Hills, PA / Pennsbury) and Stephanie Leney (Clifton, VA / Centreville) tying for first (7) and second (5) on the team in kills, respectively.  Kristin Buter (Bowie, MD / Bowie) and Lindsey Fox (Meadville, PA / Cochranton) had seven and five kills, respectively, as well.

The defensive stars for the “U” were Linda Dolansky (Rahway, NJ / Union Catholic Regional) who came up with 12 digs and Angela Shotter (Uniontown, PA / Laurel Highlands) who notched a match-high 17 digs.

The Red Flash will try to run their Northeast Conference record to 5-0 when they play host to Quinnipiac on Nov. 4 at 2 p.m.  The Flash have not opened their conference schedule 5-0 since 2000 when they went 6-3 against league opponents.
