LORETTO, Pa. (January 17, 2007) – Saint Francis senior thrower Diane Gmiter (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Laurel Highlands) has been throwing at the top of her game this season, and the Northeast Conference has awarded her by naming her the NEC Women’s Field Athlete-of-the-Week.
Gmiter had a pair of Top-5 finishes at the Penn State Relays. She recorded the third best performance in school history in the weight throw, in which she took second with a distance of 57-02.25 feet. She also placed third in the shot put with a toss of 47-04.5.
This is Gmiter’s second award this season. She was given her first award in early December after a stunning performance at the Bucknell Bison Open when she won the shot put event by throwing an ECAC-qualifying mark of 14.62 meters. This award adds another one to Gmiter’s career accolades, giving her a total of nine NEC weekly awards in her four seasons.
Gmiter and the Red Flash will continue their season at the Bucknell University Heptagonal on Saturday, January 20.
