Sample Schedule 2010 Academy Brochure Instructions for Applying to The Science and the Art of Discovery program Application Form - The Science and the Art of Discovery program Spend a week at SFU in the summer for an experience of a lifetime! The Science and the Art of Discovery program is a week-long experience designed to provide an opportunity for talented high school students between their junior and senior years to experience science in action and investigate current topics in science. Students will have the opportunity to earn college credit while experiencing how scientific knowledge is gained and the process of conducting and communicating scientific investigations. The program will also address challenges and issues involved in scientific discoveries and investigations; the relationship between science and technology and their impact on society; and distinguishing between fact, pseudoscience, and popular opinion. Students will work in teams to complete an inquiry-based project and present their results. Program activities include classroom discussion, hands-on environmental learning experiences unique to western Pennsylvania, research shadowing, and recreational activities guided by experienced resident assistants. Selected students will be provided with housing, meals, course materials, and two college credits upon completion of the program. Students with an interest in pursuing a career in the sciences or technical fields are encouraged to attend. Please click on the link above to apply.
