Randy Spaid is an inside player who has the ability to hit the outside shot...saw action in six games as a sophomore, but is expected to see increased playing time this season...joins teammate Kurt Hoffman as the only local players on the Saint Francis roster...chose Saint Francis over Kent State, Colgate, Cornell and Eastern Kentucky.
Sophomore Year Had career highs in points (6), rebounds (3) and minutes played (11) in win over Lock Haven (12/15/07)...received first career start vs. RMU (1/19/08)...went 2-for-2 from the field for 5 points and first career block in 12 minutes versus Mount St. Mary's (2/23/08).
Freshman Year (2006-07)
Spaid saw limited action as a freshman, playing in 10 games...scored 9 points, and had 1 rebound, 1 assist and 2 steals on season...played in his first collegiate game, scoring 1 point in SFU’s 94-60 season-opening win over Lock Haven (11/18/06)...scored 2 points in less than one minute of action at Sacred Heart (12/9/06)...made first 3-point attempt of career in season-high six minutes at Akron (12/19/06).
Portage HS
Spaid is the first player from Portage High School to sign on to play at a Division I school since Len Chappell in 1958...lettered four years in baseball, three years in basketball and football, and two years in track...led the Mustangs to an 18-7 record during senior year when he was named to the Associated Press All-Pennsylvania Second Team...was a regional all-star during senior season, as well as a two-time all-conference selection, an Altoona Mirror First Team member, and a three-time all-Tournament County selection...averaged 19 ppg, 12.5 rpg, and 5.0 apg during senior season...scored 1,194 points during career...also holds his high school high jump record.
