We are delighted to inform you concerning an opportunity that is available to school districts to gain valuable teacher professional development and nearly $1 million worth of engineering design software. Links for additional information have been included at the bottom of this page. Workshop Information A teacher workshop on Pro-E design software will be held October 12-13, 2009 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM each day. It will be held on the campus of Saint Francis University in the Pasquerilla Library, Room 111 and will be conducted by a certified trainer. The cost of the workshop is $250. Registration is limited to a maximum of 15 participants. For additional information, please contact the SFU Science Outreach Center at (814) 472-3878 or scienceoutreach@francis.edu. Teachers participating in the training will also be provided with Act 48 Professional Development hours through Saint Francis University. Click here to register. Real World Design Challenge As a result of our efforts through the PA STEM Initiative, teachers throughout the state are eligible to participate in the US Department of Energy's Real World Design Challenge. The teams will compete at the state level. The winners at the state level will compete with finalists from the other 10 states participating this year. What is so unique about this competition is that the maker of Pro ENGINEER software has partnered with the Department of Energy to offer free software licenses to any teacher who attends the two-day training workshop. So, it does not cost the school anything other than the registration fee for the training to get the capacity to become involved in the competition. Each trained teacher receives 300 student licenses (valued at approximately $1 million), which will not only enable the teams from the school to compete in the 2010 Real World Design Challenge but also obviously will enhance their curriculum in other areas. Teachers who might be interested in training would be those who teach in high schools in the areas of technology education, physics, math, or engineering.
