New PA graduates who wish to work in another state
Note that each state has different rules and regulations regarding obtaining a medical license (temporary and permanent), prescribing privileges, and the scope of practice for PAs. Graduates must obtain these regulations from the State Board of Medicine in the state in which they intend to practice. For a list of the State Boards of Medicine please use the AAPA web site: http://www.aapa.org.

Federation Credentials Verification Service
The Federation Credentials Verification Service (FCVS) was established in 1996 to provide a centralized, uniform process for state medical boards as well as private and governmental entities to obtain a verified, primary source record of a physician's core medical credentials. This service is designed to lighten the workload of credentialing staff and reduce duplication of effort by gathering, verifying and permanently storing credentials in a centralized repository for physicians and physician assistants.
FCVS obtains primary source verification of medical education, postgraduate training, licensure examination history, board action history and identity. This repository of information allows an individual to establish a confidential, lifetime professional portfolio that can be forwarded at the individual's request to any interested party, including, but not limited to: state medical boards, hospitals, managed care plans and professional societies.
Local Medical Review Policy
Local medical review policy is an administrative and educational tool to assist providers, physicians and suppliers in submitting correct claims for payment. Local policies outline how contractors will review claims to ensure that they meet Medicare coverage requirements. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires that LMRPs be consistent with national guidance (although they can be more detailed or specific), developed with scientific evidence and clinical practice, and are developed through certain specified federal guidelines. Contractor Medical Directors develop these policies.
