Occupational Therapy Faculty Member Recognized
Kerri Golden, MOT, OTR/L, BCMH was recently recognized by the American Occupational Therapy Association as one of the first practitioners in the United States to receive the Board Certification in Mental Health credential. Ms. Golden participated in the actual development of the credential and its standards of competence, and is now recognized as an expert in mental health practice in the field of occupational therapy.
To achieve this credential, Ms. Golden had to demonstrate superior occupational therapy outcomes with persons with mental illness, and she has done this through her work with persons diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness (SPMI) as well as with those at risk for developing mental illness. Ms. Golden, as well as her students enrolled in the Occupational Therapy program here at Saint Francis University, have worked on a number of levels with persons facing mental illness, and have made a significant impact on the lives of those individuals as well.
For her efforts in assisting in the development of this specialty credential for the American Occupational Therapy Association Specialties Board (AOTASB), Ms. Golden was invited to become a member of the AOTASB and will help to oversee all of the new specialty certifications, including Mental Health, Pediatrics, Physical Rehabilitation and Geriatrics.
