A Profile of the OCE Student
The continuing education programs are designed primarily for women and men over the age of 23 who are seeking to enhance and develop their current profession, embark on a new career path, or resume their post-secondary study. The continuing education programs attract adult learners from a 30 mile radius of Altoona, Johnstown and State College. The average age of adult learners who are enrolled in continuing education courses is 33 years.
Degree programs offered through the Saint Francis University Office of Continuing Education focus on the student who has full-time responsibilities on the job and/or in the home. Most of the programs are offered at off-campus locations convenient to the adult learner and can be completed through evening and part-time studies. All programs are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Universities.
Most adult learners come to the college classroom with some doubts and concerns over their ability to complete a degree. The Office of Continuing Education is sensitive to the unique needs of adults and has designed learning opportunities especially for them. Classes are small, informal, and often student centered, giving the individual greater opportunities to interact, utilize his/her past experiences, and assume more responsibility for the learning. An advisor from the Office of Continuing Education is always available to assist individuals in selecting classes appropriate to their needs and course of study.
