Degree Options

The following educational options are available for prospective students:
Within the application form you will be asked which educational path you are applying for.


First Bachelor’s

This option is for students who have not yet received a bachelors degree from another accredited institution. Credits from hospital corpsman and IDC schooling will be applied toward this degree. Additionally, credits from courses taken at other accredited institutions will be utilized. A maximum of 92 credits may be transferred in toward this degree. The individualized degree plan will follow University policy on core credit and minimum credit requirements taken through Saint Francis for graduation.

 

Second Bachelor’s Degree

This option is available for students who already possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. A candidate for a second Bachelor's degree at Saint Francis University must complete a minimum of 32 credits which have not counted toward the first bachelor's degree and must satisfy the requirements of a major other than those taken for the first bachelor's degree. The individualized degree plan will follow University policy on core and minimum credit requirements taken through Saint Francis University.

A graduate from another college wishing to pursue studies at Saint Francis University for a second bachelor's degree may be required to undertake additional course work as determined by the Admissions Office and the Provost. Six credits must be completed in Religious Studies at Saint Francis University in order to fulfill University requirements.

Pre-requisite course work for the Armed Forces Physician Assistant Program

This option is available for students who already possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, who do not wish to obtain a second bachelor's degree and who want to complete coursework necessary for eligibility into a graduate physician assistant program. Upon admission, these applicants will take only the pre-requisite courses needed for entry into the physician assistant program.

Please note: Saint Francis University is in the development phase of the distance based Armed Forces Physician Assistant Program (AFPAP). The program has completed the accreditation review site visit in December 2009 and is awaiting notification of accreditation status in March 2010. We anticipate starting the first group of students in August 2010. You can view additional information on this program at www.francis.edu/afpap

Taking the pre-requisite courses through Saint Francis University does not guarantee automatic acceptance in the PA program.

The following courses will be required in order to be eligible to apply to the Armed Forces Physician Assistant Program.

  • Anatomy and Physiology with Lab (8 credits) – This requirement can be fulfilled as either two combined Anatomy and Physiology courses or individually as one course in Anatomy and one course in Physiology
  • Chemistry (8 credits)(must have labs) – coursework must include general chemistry and organic or biochemistry
  • Microbiology with Lab (4 credits)
  • Statistics (3 credits)
  • Psychology (3 credits) – Introductory or upper level psychology course
  • Medical Terminology Course (1-3 credit) – applicant must complete one Medical Terminology course
