PEORIA, Ill. (Aug. 26, 2006) – Sophomore John Guse (Chandler, Ariz. / Hamilton) scored off a header at 92:35 to lead the Saint Francis men’s soccer to a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over Western Michigan on Saturday during the final day of action at the fourth annual Bradley Classic.
Guse scored off a throw-in from junior Jarron Brooks (Mitchellville, Md. / Archbishop Carroll) to help the Red Flash bounce back from a season-opening loss at the hands of Bradley on Friday evening.
Junior midfielder Kurt Sagorsky (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) fed a long pass to senior forward Scott Thompson (Durham, England / Lanchester Saint Bedes) at 1:48 for the first score of the game, giving Saint Francis a 1-0 lead. However, Tom Oatley scored in the 57th minute to tie the match and force overtime.
The Red Flash improved to 1-1 on the season. They will be idle until 4 p.m. Friday when they open their home slate against in-state foe Drexel.
