SFU Men’s Soccer Falls Short at Quinnipiac
HAMDEN, Conn. (Oct. 17, 2005) – Freshman forward Luke Bellows (Lincoln, Neb.) scored his first career goal, but the Saint Francis men’s soccer team came up short in a 2-1 loss at Quinnipiac on Monday afternoon.
The Red Flash had their seven-game unbeaten streak snapped in falling to 5-4-3 overall, and 1-1-2 in the Northeast Conference.
Bellows scored off a Jonathan Guse (Chandler, Ariz.) pass at 38:09 to tie the contest at 1-1. But Quinnipiac got a goal from Francis Mavula, his second of the game, in the 54th minute for the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper Bobby Pipech (Broadheadsville, Pa.) stopped two shots in the loss.
Saint Francis outshot Quinnipiac 12-7, and had three corner kicks against just two.
The Red Flash will be back in action when they travel to Bucknell for their final non-conference game of the season at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
