Men’s Soccer Eliminated from Playoff Contention Following Loss to Terriers
QUEENS, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2005) – Saint Francis University surrendered two first half goals in a 2-0 loss to Saint Francis College (N.Y.) and was officially eliminated from the Northeast Conference Tournament picture. The Red Flash close out the 2005 season at Long Island on Sunday.
Saint Francis College’s Joseph John Baptiste scored back-to-back goals in the 27th and 34th minutes to lead the Terriers to victory. The Terriers improve to 4-10-2 overall and pick up their first conference win of the season.
Freshman Zach Koontz (Brownsburg, Ind.) posted two shots on goal to lead SFU’s attack. Senior goalkeeper Bobby Pipech (Broadheadsville, Pa.) made three saves in 86 minutes of action, while junior goalkeeper Justin Janicek (Avon Lake, Ohio) saw his first action in a Red Flash uniform, making no stops in four minutes of play.
The Terriers outshot the Red Flash, 11-10. Both teams had one corner kick apiece.
Saint Francis is now 6-6-5 overall and 2-3-3 in the NEC. The Flash will take on the Blackbirds at Noon on Sunday.
