Red Flash Men’s Soccer Season Ends on Winning Note at Long Island

LORETTO, Pa. (Nov. 6, 2005) – Senior Bobby Pipech (Broadheadsville, Pa.) stopped seven shots and freshman Kwame Adjeman-Pamboe (Greenbelt, Md.) scored two goals to lead the Saint Francis men’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Long Island in both teams’ season finales on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Flash finished the season with a 7-6-5 overall record, and a 3-3-3 mark in the Northeast Conference. They finished sixth in the NEC, three points out of the fourth, and final, playoff spot.

Playing their final games in a Saint Francis uniform, Pipech and senior Cesar Pena (Scarsborough, Ontario) both got the start.

“After a tough loss on Friday, the guys came back and fought hard today,” said Saint Francis head coach B.J. Craig. “Both seniors had great games and made a big difference in this win. We are going to miss them next year.”

Pipech posted a school record six shutouts and 0.78 goals against average. His 14 career shutouts are also a school record.

Long Island (6-9-1, 3-5-1 NEC) took a 1-0 lead just 8:37 into the contest off a goal from Mohammad Mashriqi.

But the Red Flash came back to score three unanswered goals as their defense tightened up. Freshman Aaron Clapham (Christchurch, New Zealand) got on the board first with a shot off a corner kick to tie the game at 24:34. It was Clapham’s third goal of the season.

Adjeman-Pamboe gave Saint Francis the lead at 2-1 at 34:29 when he slipped behind a defender and beat Long Island goalkeeper Jeremy Wimer into the lower left corner.

Adjeman-Pamboe then tallied his team-best sixth goal of the season at 81:03 to clinch the win. Sophomore Jarron Brooks (Mitchellville, Md.) and freshman Donnie Montoya (Albuquerque, N.M.) had two assists each.

Long Island outshot Saint Francis 14-10 in the game, and each team had five corner kicks.
