TEANECK, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2006) – The Saint Francis men’s soccer team had its nine-match unbeaten streak snapped when Samson Malijani scored at 91 minutes, 59 seconds in overtime to lead Fairleigh Dickinson to a 1-0 victory over the Red Flash on Sunday afternoon.
With the loss, Saint Francis dropped to 7-6-3 overall, and 4-1-2 in the Northeast Conference. The Red Flash will return home to try and clinch an NEC playoff berth next weekend. They will play host to Central Connecticut State, at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Saint Francis will play Quinnipiac, at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Red Flash need a win or two ties in their last two matches to clinch a spot in the playoffs for the second time in school history.
The Knights outshot Saint Francis 10-7 in the contest, including the only shot in the extra frame.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brad Williams (San Lorenzo, Calif. / Arroyo) stopped two shots in the match, and received help from his defense on another two saves. Senior forward Scott Thompson (Durham, England / Lanchester Saint Bedes) had two shots, while freshman midfielder Brent Brockman (Dillsburg, Pa. / Northern York) had three shots in the match.
Malijani scored his game-winner from 18 yards out.
Saint Francis had been 6-0-3 in its final nine matches before dropping its first conference game of the season.
